Overview & Spiritual Status
حضرت شعیب علیہ السلام موسیٰ علیہ السلام کے سسر اور قوم مدین کے نبی تھے جو ناپ تول میں کمی کرتے تھے۔
Historical Context, Era & Lineage
Prophet Shuayb (AS), an Arab prophet from the lineage of Ibrahim, was sent to the commercial crossroads of Madyan (Midian) near the Gulf of Aqaba. The people of Madyan were wealthy merchants who compounded idolatry with systemic commercial fraud: manipulating weights and measures, shortchanging customers, extorting tolls, and terrorizing caravans.
Major Miracles & Divine Signs (المعجزات)
Endowed with extraordinary rhetorical clarity and persuasive eloquence—earning him the prophetic title "Khatib al-Anbiya"—Shuayb systematically dismantled their rationalizations for economic corruption. Divine retribution selectively protected him and the believers while the torment of the Day of the Shadow (cloud raining fire) and an earthquake leveled their corrupt bazaar.
The Mission, Preaching of Tawheed & Severe Trials
Shuayb pleaded with his countrymen to recognize that halal wealth with divine blessing is far superior to ill-gotten profits. The wealthy merchants mocked him: "Does your prayer command you that we leave what our fathers worship or that we not do with our wealth what we please?" (11:87). When they threatened to stone him, he maintained serene trust until judgment fell.
Key Moral Lessons & Contemporary Reflection
Shuayb (AS) establishes that business ethics, consumer honesty, and fair economic policies are fundamental obligations of monotheistic faith. Religion cannot be confined to ritual worship while markets and financial systems remain corrupt.
