Overview & Spiritual Status
حضرت زکریا علیہ السلام مریم کے کفیل تھے؛ اللہ نے انہیں بڑھاپے میں یحییٰ علیہ السلام جیسا بیٹا دیا۔
Historical Context, Era & Lineage
Prophet Zakariya (AS) was a venerable priest, carpenter, and prophet of the house of Aaron who oversaw the sacred worship at the Temple of Jerusalem (Bayt al-Maqdis). He served as the legal and spiritual guardian of Maryam (Mary), mother of Jesus. Despite reaching ninety years of age with a wife who had been barren all her life, his faith in divine capability remained incandescent.
Major Miracles & Divine Signs (المعجزات)
Whenever Zakariya entered the sanctuary of Maryam, he found out-of-season fruits and celestial sustenance, prompting her to explain: "It is from Allah; indeed, Allah provides for whom He wills without measure." Inspired, Zakariya made his whispered prayer, and angels announced the birth of a prophet-son, Yahya—a name never before given to anyone.
The Mission, Preaching of Tawheed & Severe Trials
Zakariya led prayers, taught the Torah, and defended the sanctity of the sanctuary against hypocritical authorities. As a sign confirming his wife’s pregnancy, his tongue was bound from speaking to the people for three days except through gestures, while his heart engaged in constant remembrance. In his later years, he endured martyrdom with majestic patience.
Key Moral Lessons & Contemporary Reflection
Zakariya (AS) is the patron of sincere, desperate prayer. He proves that no matter how aged, barren, or bleak circumstances may appear, the believer must never deem any request beyond the power of Allah.
